"Not enough jamming in 10-18-72? It has more jamming than 10-17 and 10-19 combined... "

I'm not comparing 10-18 to the other Fox Theatre shows. All 3 of them don't have a lot of jamming. I'm picking my favorite fall '72 show and for me that requires more than the standard amount of jamming. 10-18-72 has a nice DS and a nice short PITB. Other than that, most songs are only in the 5 minute range and are pretty standard versions. The quality of playing in all 3 Fox Theatre shows is way up there, but I can't consider any of them the best fall '72 show.

DP 36 is my favorite right now mostly due to the DS>Dew, but I find the whole show to be way above average. So many highlights for me and I love the setlist as well.

Even DP36 which I picked, is only my favorite right now. When it comes to the Dead my favorites are constantly changing for the most part.

I think I see what you mean, you seem to be referring to setlists. They only had a handful of real "jam" songs in late 1972, so most shows tended to have the same amount of jamming, except the ones that had less...
A few shoot the works, though - 9/21 for instance, the second set starts with He's Gone>Truckin', neither of which were played on 10/18. (And 9/21 is, of course, a much longer show.) But much the same short five-minute tunes bulked up the setlists on any given night; and that tendency would become even more extreme in early '73...
